  "White" is a relatively modern concept, and one that can be quite nebulous. I see some people call Bernie Sanders white, but I also see white nationalists who dont consider Jews white. Back when the British were committing a genocicde against the Irish and driving millions of Catholic refugees into a predominantly Protestant America they weren't considered white. Some Nazis considered Japanese people "honorary whites". People around the Mediterranean are a whole mixed bag- Italians, Greeks, and Spaniards have all been treated as white or non-white at times. Racists still debate whether Cleopatra and other Coptic Egyptians should count as "white" or not. And of course Europeans have been making up divisions and killing each other over it for centuries. The very concepts of "Italy" and "France" and "Germany" and "Spain" and the like are pnky a few generations old. It's not just "white" people though. The Japanese have a history of committing atrocities against their neighbors in Korea and China. Chinese history is largely the story of the Han people conquering the nations around them, and they are still committing genocide against groups like the Uyghurs and Tibetans today. Sudan had the genocide of the Darfuri in the early 2000's. The Rohingya genocide in Myanmar is still ongoing. We could go on and on. The idea that only "white" people are racist is, itself, a racist idea.

    I'm mixed race and it's disturbing how true this is. One of the weird things about being mixed race is that people feel comfortable telling me about their racial views. There are a bunch of racial and ethnic prejudices that white people (particularly white Americans) don't even know exist. One funny thing is that many forms of racism focus don't focus on skin color and instead focus on other arbitrary markers; ear lobes, noses, hair patterns.

  Depends on which white you mean because if you're using the ultra elite definition I'm not white because I've got Scottish and Italian ancestry. The concept of being "white" was historically used to discriminate against people who weren't the right kind of anglo saxon.

  The semantical arguments about who counts as “white” already exist and often in very hate filled ways. Alt right “preserve the white race” people already try to bring back the pre world war 2 “Italians don’t count as white” nonsense. And of course tons of Italian Americans are certainly not known for progressive stances So basically targets would shift?

    The concept of whiteness comes from the Spanish inquisition after the fall of Grenada. Being fair skinned was a way of proving without a doubt that you weren't a jew or a muslim. My guess is we'd start dividing up amongst religious heritage again. Mormons vs. Evangelicals Vs. Protestants Vs. Catholics Vs. The Real Christians

      Also the Spanish discriminated against Muslims who converted to Christian and doubted their faith as true. This was a generational thing since even their grandchildren were seen as suspect even if they and their parents were born and raised Catholic.

    Don't forget that WASPs often excluded entire professions to what they considered 'lesser' whites and catholics and Jews. Ben Shapiro once said that Jews might not be good at the NBA like blacks when he doesn't realize (or does but is lying) that Jews dominated basketball in the 1920s and 1930s. Ironically then as now racism played a role in stereotyping them. Since Jews were seen as crafty and intelligently sneaky this was seen as manifesting in the sport, which often does need deception to get ahead.

  Is it like everyone turned white or every non white person has disappeared? The first one is the most "fun" to imagine, as in the other case, we lost a lot of people and that's very sad... You can imagine people of color experiencing strong body disphoria at first. Maybe grouping by ex color vs always white, and people pretending to be from one group or the other since their will be no way to discern. Maybe language, accents and dialect can be used to try to flag people (for those who cares of course). Maybe hair color would be another way to discriminate people, before eyes color. Height? Tattoo? We would always find ways unfortunately... Other impact might be mass migration as white skin is not adapted to sunny weather. Lots of sunburn... Cults created around this event (the Whitening), some see it as good, other as a tragedy. Whatever happened was unexplainable and baffles scientist around the world. Maybe a belief that another wave of color change will happen in the future. Support group for people who lost their color. The immense celebrity of the first new baby of color that will be born, maybe making color a very precious attributes. You could write so many scenario in this world, but it would be pretty heavy handed as literature 😅

  Having just come from the "taking things too literally" thread, contexts like these make it fun to deliberately take it too literally. What would I do if I woke up and there were *only* white people left? I'd probably think "what the fuck is going on" as I see only white people floating around in empty space, and then I'd die from a mix of lack of oxygen, hypothermia, and lack of pressure. Though maybe I'd first ask a clarifying question, like if that "black people" was just an example or would there still be like asians, and latinos? Do Irish and Italians count as white for this question? Basically set it up to look like I'm engaging with the question in good faith before taking the "clarification" to the extreme and giving the above answer. And then poke at whatever new edge cases they leave when they try to clarify again, until I get bored and just disengage because it was a fucking dumb question.

  I feel I have to point out here that most white people aren't racist, and don't give a shit about skin color. I know this comment will be down voted yo hell because of course all white people are evil racist bastards, and people of color never do anything wrong, but still... This post feels ever so slightly racist. Is racism not racism anymore if white people are the target? I was always taught to just be nice to everybody and that becoming your enemy doesn't defeat your enemy.

  It's not just white people, look at post-colonial states. Africa and Latin America has had in-fighting after independence, but thankfully Latin America haven't been at war with each other since early 20th century. Central Asia and Caucasus after the fall of the Soviet Union are not getting along. And I don't need to mention the Middle East. India and Pakistan are always dick measuring. I think East Asia is the only region where there haven't had a prolong intra-fighting, but only because the fragmented geography makes cross-country invasions pretty much impossible.

  I think hair color would be the more obvious first choice, though it is changeable. Someone mentioned skin color again and I agree that would likely happen. Were I to throw an odd one out: handedness becomes the next source of discrimination. As for what I would do, immediately mourn the loss of my wife and probably die in short order since white people make up a tiny fraction of Japan's population and certain sensitive jobs aren't open to those who aren't Japanese citizens anyway meaning all kinds of stuff breaks down almost immediately.

    I’ve lived in a place that was “all white” and they divided themselves up by nationality. Poles, Ukrainians, Slovaks, Czech, Italian. There would be bars people would avoid because they were harassed for not looking right. This was in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at the turn of the millenium. Since then there’s been an influx of Hispanic people and now all the “whites” hate them together.

  This is confusing. The are more than "white" and "black". If it's only white people left, does that mean anyone that's not of pure European descent is also gone? Is there a fraction that's allowable? 3/5ths? We'd be looking at a potential extinction-level event for Homo Sapiens, in any case. It would be hard to come back from that.
